The LANGUAGE
clause allows you to specify a language name (for example, FRENCH), from which locale-sensitive information about the data can be derived. The following are some examples of the type of information that can be derived from the language name:
Day and month names and their abbreviations
Symbols for equivalent expressions for A.M., P.M., A.D., and B.C.
Default sorting sequence for character data when the ORDER BY
SQL clause is specified
Writing direction (right to left or left to right)
Affirmative and negative response strings (for example, YES
and NO
)
